I don't understand options, but it seems I have 2 other stocks that also have 1/20/17 as the date to expire, is that common? Seems like vital info Ive been overlooking

Shorts are paying 50%+ interest. Most of them are professional investors and are making millions.

Professional shorts wouldn't be hedging by buying calls. The costs of holding their position is already very high.

They might sell puts, and they'd undoubtedly be selling calls.
