They make money on the down and money on the up, not a lot but if they're spending this much time then they are getting a return.
There are several possible reasons. The above is more likely. Then there's the competitor theory, which I think is a bit far fetched but possible. There's the scorned investor angle, which is a convenient mask more than anything and possibly the closest guess is that they are doing what they can to drive the price down to accumulate more shares at a lower price point. In other words they are true investors like you but just taking another path. They believe in the tech every bit as much as the "true believers" but they're making their living out of trading, so can afford the time. It's a gamble for them as well.
AND -
Then there's the one they try to push the protector of the investor angle, the white knights, which is so far from reality that it's laughable. they're just out for a dollar like everyone else.
Don't worry about them.
