The point is not that the patents were not properly approved. It is that a manufacturer can produce a reliable, competitive meter without violating FARE's patents. With new technology patents are generally filed with "brackets" that try to encompass myriad methods of producing a competitive product. With something as standard as a taxi meter, motor cycle or otherwise, I very much doubt that FARE's patents will inhibit production of a competitive product. In fact there are already a number of competitive meters already on the market. From what I read long ago, FARE's design is or was top of the line. Nevertheless, many companies are making gadgets with GPS, alarms for customers, receipt printers, credit card readers, etc. that will work nicely on motorcycles with a bit of weather proofing.
