We'll know if naked shorting is the case once the stock if the stock has a run.

The first thing the brokers with a naked short position do is to run to on-line trading houses such as Ameritrade and Scotttrade etc. and tell them that the stock appears to be trading suspiciously.

I have no proof of this, but that happened to me with two stocks recently, INSN and PMHJ, and online trading was halted - in today's world of internet trading, that meant that trading was in effect halted.

IMO the way to know which stocks have been naked shorted is to call some of the on-line trading houses and ask for their restricted trading list - LOL.
