I had a similar thing with SLW. I bought $10 calls and sold $15 calls. I will make 100% on my money when called. Not worth closing the $15 call without knowing it will keep going up.

Options sometimes provide a little profit and downside protection but then it feels like it locks you in to a position.

I don't understand your A COUPLE OF LESSONS PARRAGRAPH.
