i know what you mean Mr Cole, Murdoch became basically what he is while in Australia, yet fair dinkum HE IS AMERICAN now .. grin.

How is it possible to hold both American and Australian citizenship at the same time?

I thought American law does not allow American citizens to hold other citizenships?

For Australians taking out US citizenship (which I did last year) it's a bit don't-ask-don't-tell on both sides. The Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America says "...I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen". However since 4 April 2002, Australians can apply for US citizenship and Australia continues to recognize them as Australian citizens, regardless of what the US oath says. (Rupert Murdoch took out US citizenship before that to be able to buy more newspapers, so he lost his Australian citizenship.) Because Australia continues to regard them as Australian citizens, the US State Department normally does likewise, again regardless of what the US oath says.
