I haven't tried to track sales of SpacePop merchandise. It would mean multiple trips to Toys R Us (and Khols), and noting shelf inventory changes.

It would mean making a lot of assumptions and I would mostly look for signs inventory was exhausted (empty or not replenished SpacePop shelf space).

Assumptions:
Limited production/inventory of merchandise (maybe 10,000-50,000 of each item)
Only sold at Toys R Us for the Christmas season

I would adjust my assumption based on how shelf space looked. Empty shelf space one day, then full the next (several times) would indicate higher inventory levels. Empty shelf space replaced with non-SpacePop merchandise, I would assume lower initial inventory levels.
