None of those securities mentioned in the article, VXX, TVIX, etc. are the same as buying the VIX.

Over the last ten days the actual volatility is 5.78. TVIX is buying volatility (futures) for 16.15.

The actual volatility needs to go up by 179% (16.15/5.78-1) just to justify the current price.
