#3560 RE: Phil(Hot Rod Chevy) #3558

Hi Phil, Did you ever see the movie “Thunder Road”?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052293/

A neat movie from my youth. :-)
And the star Robert Mitchum sang the “hit” song.

Moonshiners vs Revenuers …
I once read that the moonshiners’ and revenuers’ vehicles were often ‘hopped up’ in the same building, by the same people, but in different areas of said building.

The Moonshiners’ vehicles apparently had the more modern (powerful) vehicles. Why?
The Moonshiners paid Cash. The Revenuers were on account. :-)

Hi Phil, Re: TV presentation of Road Courses.............

TV just can't do it justice. An oval you can probably get a better feel for on TV than any road course. Just walking a road racing track makes one appreciate the TV version to a greater degree, but driving it is better.

With in-car cameras mostly being on "wide angle" it changes the depth perception and fools the viewer into thinking the distances are far different than reality. Sort of like that statement on the bottom of right hand mirrors!

Even Road America's hills don't show up on TV. It looks generally flat from most camera angles and on-board views. It is a shame we can't have "feelies" available! I did take a "ride" in a simulator once that was a NASCAR presentation at Sears Point (Infineon now) and, since I've driven the track I can attest to the fact that the simulator does one heck of a good job reproducing the dynamics. NASCAR drives a slightly varied footprint of the track than we used, but about 80% of it was as I remember it. I found myself looking into the turns just as though I was actually driving them. Looking for the exits, brake points, etc too. Darn, I'd love to have one of those for my own!!! But I will have to be content to just get out there and drive the tracks instead! :-)

Best regards, Tom
