A few of my sources last winter were Accuweather for cities on the eastern grid:

Certainly not 100% reliable, but you can see a few weeks in advance what might be coming down the pike weather-wise. Such as if there is a cold snap coming.

Bespoke Weather (their tweets) and their meteorologist also had some interesting forecasts last winter.

We're going to have the 2nd warmest February in US history surpassed only by 1970 .... it appears NOAA was correct in calling for a warm winter, while many of those private weather forecasting services were wrong !

Any thoughts ?
