I also think L3 would have paid more if they had to, but they were smart and made a low offer for it. I suppose they figured they could offer more if other offers were made, and of course there weren't any others with the exception of the one that was even less than theirs.

Yep, it may be that the only real players in ETD are Smith and L3 and Smith may think their Morpho tech is going to be good enough. I thought there were other players in the ETD field would might be willing to pay more to protect their future, but so far no clear signals of that.

Re Smith, I would think they would buy the tech for no other reason than to make it VERY difficult for L3 to get future ETD contracts. But, it may be they have knowledge that they can't have that much of a monopoly.
