apparently Eastwood only got paid 50 thou for his part
while the movie cost 600 thou. and box-office was 15 million...guess shooting in Spain was considered a luxury

The film was shot in Almería, Spain, with interiors done at Rome's Cinecittà Studios.[3] The production designer Carlo Simi built the town of "El Paso" in the Almería desert:[17] it still exists, as a tourist attraction Mini Hollywood.[18] The town of Agua Caliente, where Indio and his gang flee after the bank robbery, is Albaricoques, a small "pueblo blanco" on the Níjar plain.

Any of the Sergio Leone westerns are worth the time. My favorite is "Once Upon a Time in the West", great actors and a musical score done by a master. If I could only have one western though it would be "Lonesome Dove".
