I think QDs in general obviously have incredible potential in multiple industries (solar and displays being the top 2 in terms of market). I think it's tricky though because there are lots of smaller start-ups looking at QDs (people post about them here all the time), but they all seem to be specializing in applications. QDs have clearly gotten easier to synthesize over the years, but what's holding a lot of products up from reaching market is probably how to integrate them. I think that's what makes Nanosys the clear hands down favorite in displays currently. They have a complete, ready-to-use product they've developed with 3m. Their patents show they've done quite a bit of research into the actual making of the film, and the properties of the dots that go in. From my perspective, Nanoco and QMC have focused too much on simply making dots, which makes them less attractive to OEMs IMO.
