QDV attempted to make a Cd-Free dot but ended up laying off their entire division. Hence why they're on an incredibly slippery slope and probably won't be around much longer. Don't think it surprised them, just that they thought the RoHS exemption would be extended.
"QMC is the only company publicly confirmed they have cad free apart from Nano." -Nanosys has also stated it and said they have sales/revenues from their Cd-free material.
