DD/opinion: On top of the gov forcing it, weed retailers will want it done so they have a better idea on how much to pay and charge. Getting your weed certified will be the standard for every aspect of MJ sales... just like liquor percentage (proof) is.... or certifying a baseball card/comic.
Most of these pennies selling weed infused coffees, lighting, etc will fail eventually. They dont have the cash to compete with the big dogs, but SGBY is already becoming a name in Oregon and once they enter Cali, this could become one of the most recognizable names in the MJ industry, because everyone will be forced to use it and will refer to the data often to make a sale.
If one wants to invest in this sector, they need to have a few shares of this imo... i think most penny MJ players dont (yet) understand the market edge this stock has, which is why its not bought to extremely overinflated levels, like so many others... but this is about to change bigly.
This could be one of the biggest hidden gems of all the MJ plays... During the gold rush, selling picks and shovels made the most money, because you needed these tools to get to the gold... and soon every aspect of the MJ industry will require testing to get to the $$$$$
