I've seen millions of shares of bankrupt companies trade even when the market knows the common stock is worthless. I don't see this as much different. A few people chose to ignore the debt, ignore the future dilution, still think the "assets" are worth something and hope for a miracle. I don't see that happening.
And what seems like a lot of shares is really chump change. Half a million shares is under $3000. Could be CD holders propping up the share price while dumping the shares they converted at .0015 and are now selling at .0055. Tidy profit there.
