#125895 RE: Its_lose_not_loose #125894

I AM AFRAID YOU ARE RIGHT ILNL

But I want to assure you that this was not always the case with Gene. At one time he was a pioneering MD on the front lines of the battle against AIDS. He was very much the evidence-based scientist at that time. If you talk to anyone who was in the field of infectious disease / AIDS research from that eara ( in the early 80's), the name Gene Seymour commands considerable respect...bordering on awe. He was a rock-star at that time.

When i first learned of NNVC and began conversing with Gene, I did my homework on him and I was seriously impressed.

The departure from that intellectual standard does not happen over night. As economists are fond of saying - there are no bad people, just bad incentives. I believe this is what led to the slippery slope. We now find Gene well down that difficult-to-reverse path. But it's not impossible to retrace steps.

It was my hope that the CEO letter would begin the process of climbing back up. I am now of the belief that the CEO letter Will NOT DO THAT. This is sad.

I am about the same age as Gene. One does not want to end one's professional life on a low note. Going out on a high note is way more important than money. Gene is going to realize this too late.
