#26806 RE: Jay Arr #26805

As I recall Kaplan said driving was only one of multiple applications for Cura myCadian. He specifically commented on the autonomous truck convoy concept, and said even then he felt the human engineers on the convoy could make use of myCadian.

In today's WSJ an article about Tesla and their autonomous system said "companies from Ford Motor Co. to BMW AG have proposed fully autonomous vehicles in 2021". The article also said "Mr. Musk [CEO of Tesla] expressed his frustration with the large amount of attention received by Autopilot [Tesla's semi-autonomous offering] crashes relative to automobile crashes in general".

Given the substantial cost of purchasing a vehicle I don't think many individuals will automatically (pun intended) swap out their car for an autonomous one. The case for organizations is more complicated -- reducing labor costs vs. legal liability, for instance. I just don't see any of this happening shortly.

Far from being a Luddite, personally I would never willingly ride in an autonomous car. I'm not going to trust my life exclusively on an electronics package. The OEMs and their suppliers developing them, as well as city planners looking to eliminate parking spaces, would disagree, but then again they're talking their book.
