I assume your shares are in a taxable account. The average cost basis of all your shares never changes. The average cost basis of any remaining shares does change, if you don't sell them all.

In practice, as long as you get rid of the shares within a quarter (for timely tax purposes), it doesn't matter. Or, get rid of them in the same tax year.

Wingman you and I are in the same boat. We both own a TON of shares and have averaged down to the 4's. That is better than many who are holding REDG.

I changed my selling from first in first out to best for taxes. If I am going to take a hit, you better believe I am going to write this stock off for years to come.
