That group has been brought up before, it's an odd situation...It almost looks like they're using that site to sort of ask Kraig to help, or hoping Kraig will help, not so much that they've already done it.
It would be an interesting genetic trait to have in the arsenal, as it could hopefully be easily combined in with the other traits of interest to create not only stronger silk, but flame-retardant silk.
As a geneticist, I wonder how genetic engineering alone could accomplish that feat, but perhaps it has to do with a modification that allows for certain flame-retardant helper proteins to be added to the silk afterwards? I don't know enough about the science of fire-resistance to speak to it, but I would imagine that those are typically chemical-based rather than biological proteins...
Intriguing nonetheless....
