My theory...company needs share price as high as possible at the time of the RS to satisfy the investment banker's requirements. Artificial movement to the upside....for no apparent reason.
Watch the price go back down right back to pre split just a few months after the split, it happens all the time. RS are the actual scan in the stock business.
