I suspect a legitimate user would be far, far below the suggested daily allowance. Maybe hundreds or thousands of times below that level. Both patients in NEJM article were thought to be below that level. The suggested daily limit is based on absorption studies in healthy adults. Sepsis is like a switch. Gut permeability changes, and whatever blue dye is present in the G.I. tract at that time could be systemically absorbed. Rexista use will result in a depot of blue dye in the gut of every user at all times. Opioid-induced changes in G.I. function will slow transit and could contribute to even larger accumulations of blue dye. Sepsis is common. There is no safe level for systemic absorption of blue dye, especially for a septic patient. Trust me, nothing like this has ever been done before.
