Her studied Finance and International Relations at the University Externado and made a specialization in Government, Management and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York.
Araújo, known popularly as the 'Conchi'- born in Valledupar in 1971 in a family of political tradition within the Liberal Party.
Her grandfather Santander Araújo was a tax inspector who became mayor of Valledupar in the decade of 40.
Her father Alvaro Araujo Noguera was manager of the Caja Agraria, Senator and Minister of Agriculture of President Alfonso Lopez Michelsen.
Her aunt Consuelo, known as 'the Cacica' and murdered in 2001 by the FARC- was director of the Vallenato Legend Festival for three decades and Minister of Culture of Andrés Pastrana until her husband Edgardo Maya was elected Attorney General.
Her uncle Jaime Araújo Noguera was also a senator and one of his uncles -Rodolfo Araujo Noguera is married to Elsa Palmera, the sister of Simon Trinidad.
The third generation of Araújo also followed the political vein. Her brother Alvaro Araujo Castro, convicted parapolítica was representative to the House by the Liberal Party and Senator Alas Equipo Colombia.
Her other brother, Sergio, is currently a candidate of the Democratic Centre for mayor of Valledupar.
Also, her cousin Jaime Araújo Rentería was judge of the Constitutional Court and the National Electoral Council, and another cousin Hernando Molina Araújo son of 'the Cacica'- was governor of Cesar and later convicted of parapolítica.
Araujo began her public career in Bogotá, as director of the Botanical Garden José Celestino Mutis during the mayorship of Enrique Penalosa and was responsible for the forestation of all Transmilenio, among other things.
