Web hosting was "great" as well. I can remember all the places that would give you a space to set up shop and sell stuff on the web.
Web hosting companies were growing at breakneck speed. Monthly fees were running a minimum of 50 bucks and could run well north of that.
Today I can get 3 times the service of that $50/month website for 10 dollars a month.
VOIP is great but its a commodity business with very low barriers to entry and margins will contract you can bank on that. Many of those early web hosting companies eventually went out of business. The very best may survive but out of a field of thousands I wouldn't want to guess which one that is.
I wish you well and hope you are right but this one would have to be south of a dollar before you could even get me curious.
