WATT is mostly focused on longer range solutions, and I could see Apple providing multiple features to it's upcoming products that allow different methods of wireless charging, including those already approved by the FCC.

One thing is for sure.... no cellular company will want to be left behind when it comes to long range charging when it is ready for use because of the competition having a major competitive advantage. The other phone companies already offer inductive charging solutions, so Apple is already behind on this front and desperate to catch up to it's competition.

WATT's smaller unit is approved by the FCC but I don't think that one can be used for phones, but rather wearables. Apples needs something now for it's phones and can utilizes multiple companies if need be to provide products ASAP, including solutions for both short and long range.

Energous is focused on 2017 and beyond, so there's no rush. Besides, they have the best solution of all, and I haven't seen anyone come out with anything better yet for a real wireless solution.
