The "Secret Sauce" Is A Complete Joke
I assume you are talking about compression. And what you've stated about billion dollar companies is exactly correct. There is no more aggressive global expansionist in the streaming market beyond Netflix, perhaps followed closely behind by the Chinese.
Netflix is constantly looking to enter markets with lower average internet speeds than the U.S. There is no single American company more focused on CODEC improvement and compression technology (say outside Technicolor in tandem with every major studio).
The reasons NTEK "claim" a lower bitrate standard are twofold: inferior source files and lack of qualified standards.
There is a reason Netflix, Amazon and every other streaming/VOD outfit in the 4K space have higher minimum bitrates - better, more rigid demands on the content providers for the best possibly sources, and the exacting science of maximum quality/minimum loss versus the pristine sources they are provided.
I've watched several programs on Ultraflix, and that upscaled garbage is so compressed as in many cases to be unwatchable.
I have no idea where this BS about "secret sauce" originated, but if there was anything to it, NTEK would have been bought out years ago.
