I am an ordinary Army veteran with an honorable discharge. I spent twelve years trying to get the VA to give me routine treatment and for twelve years they told me to get lost. In writing. I finally contacted our good local Senator, Senator Heller here in Nevada. One of his local assistants told me on the phone to bring ALL of my years of paperwork to the Senator's local office. I did. That bright young man looked at the paper, got a great big grin and photo'd my file onto the Senator's letterhead paper and sent copies of all of it to the VA office in Reno. I asked if they would respond. Another big grin. "I assure you that you will hear from them soon." I went home and about two weeks later the phone rang, the VA calling me from Reno. "Just tell me what you want." I did and they opened my file and gave me just the testing and then treatment that I wanted.
Why did it take a threat from the Senator's office to get what twelve years of my efforts failed to get? Few vets have any use for the VA.
