So what was the news? On August 17th AMD presented the first public demonstration of a CPU based on its new "Zen" processor core. In this demonstration, an AMD "Summit Ridge" 8-core, 16-thread Zen-based CPU was set against a 8-core, 16-thread Broadwell-E Intel CPU. The demo consisted of rendering an image on Blender. The Intel CPU was artificially fixed at 3.0 Ghz with no turbo (it naturally runs at a higher clock and boosts higher still), to match the AMD piece at the same 3.0 Ghz. The AMD CPU finished the task faster than the Intel CPU.
