I believe that the short numbers not only include shorts "shorting" but also shorts "covering" ... I am not 100% sure about this but I read it somewhere... pls confirm if anybody knows for certain.
If my believe is correct that will come to explain the high short numbers of the last month when a lot of shorts have started to cover their positions.
