Is this just pure speculation or is there more evidence to support this claim?

At this point, i'd say speculation. but there remains a chance that some may be closer to things than one may realize.

An outright denial from Nike would rule them out but I doubt one will receive such a response.

I'm a forward thinker and looking at the two companies, I believe the potential exists more for Under Armour to make its way upward from third place....

As opposed to Nike further cementing its stance as the number one sporting apparel company....

All things considered;these days, anything's possible....
