I do business with Wegmans. I know the CEO. I know that Wegmans does more business with their 89 stores than WFM does with their 400+ stores per year.
Wegmans is #1 supermarket in the nation in revenue /sq. foot.
Massive volume per each 125,000 sq. ft. market location.

I shop at Wegmans sometimes and find their total offering to be over rated. WFM will still get the elite shoppers until the economy takes a dive. I used to like Wegmans more when I went infrequently. After shopping there for a while I see it as a gussied up Giant with a partial injection of more premium and/or overpriced goods. At the end of the day it is not Whole Foods.

OT but when they opened the new Wegmans near me I noticed it was like shopping in Germany during WWII. I'm talking about the staff. My GF and I tried to find a minority working there, like a weird game. This went on for a while because of the coupon blast that came to my address. Once the new store was open for a couple months it suddenly became very quota looking. I'm guessing they have an elite team that opens news stores and gets all the locals feeling like things operate 110%, then they bring in the real employees later. The old bait and switch.
