You are correct regarding the margin requirements. Also, must be difficult to borrow. However, simply shorting a stock that is a penny stock could be financial suicide because you can't assess the effect of a promotion. When you short, you can only make 100% or a bit more depending on margin. Shorting, your loss is infinity.

That is why no one with an IQ that starts at 78 would short MYEC
