It can. The decay is exacerbated when the VVIX (the volatility of the VIX) is high.

In the last two weeks the futures has gone from 15 to 22 to 16 to 28 to 19 to the current 22.55. That causes lots of decay.

SOLD XIV for $26, waiting for $27.*

The order was filled on Friday at 10:28:12 am.*

I have lowered my next sell limit to $27 instead of $28, because people seem nervous about a possible drop. I can't predict any targets, but I'm just trying to play it safe.*

I currently have buy limits for $22 and $20, but I might move these if I sell the $27.*

I am also planning to buy UVXY for $8, hopefully when the VIX gets down around 13. There is a reverse split coming up with UVXY, so we all have to be careful with it, (even more careful than usual).*
