The 1000 shares thing is just because they have set up a corporation type business as opposed to a sole proprietorship. Not exactly sure how it works in the UK, but in NY, an S Corp commonly has 1000 shares default in their letters of corporation(at least it was in my case) . They really mean nothing other than ownership in the company, but only IF they are assigned.
