Below is from L3's latest earnings transcript. The other day they talked about potential acquisitions in th DB conference and again reiterated detection as one of the areas where they have companies in the pipeline without obviously saying where they are in the process. In the same conference, they talked about doing bigger things and mentioned higher numbers than previously. They gave up to 300mn range for all the stuff they are looking in round numbers. Obviously, these are round numbers and do not represent strict figures but they will be disciplined in terms of purchase price. I feel like there might be another name in the picture but we shall see soon enough. Strong share price performance of the buyers is very positive as well, can be a good currency for acquisitions.
"There are new technologies that could be added as well to provide further screening capabilities such as the trace detection capability, which right now isn’t done a 100%. But, you can imagine that technology could probably get built into the tunnels that are already processing bags rather than in the indiv idual one-off examinations that are being conducted
Then of course you have some of the horrible events that have happened in Europe involving airports that suggest that the checkpoint may need to start at the curve if you will or that there is other needs for additional security outside the terminal perhaps. There is certainly a lot of questions being asked and we’re certainly thinking of a lot of ways we can help be part of the solution to those questions and it’s an active area both from an R&D standpoint, from a potential M&A standpoint, because there are technologies that are available in the marketplace for us to evaluate. But, as always, we’ll be mindful on price. We do require acquisitions that have real economic returns for us, so we are v ery focused on what we’re willing to pay and we always have the ability to develop things on our own too"
