Yes, it's been in the news. They are using two lanes. One lane takes the carry on baggage on automated conveyors (the bins have RFID tags on them). If the bag is selected for inspection, it goes to a central lane automatically. It basically decouples the passenger and carry-on inspection process, which is supposed to make it more efficient. When someone (or some bag) is selected for inspection, it does not back up the entire line. It's supposed to be more fluid.

Anyway, that's a brief description of what I read yesterday. You can read more on-line.

It's an interesting approach, but it does not increase security. It could make things a bit faster (not tons faster), but it does not make things more secure.. in my opinion.
