The number of shareholders IS inconsequential. Though someone could make the argument that if the number increases that means that the average S/H position is smaller and implies more retail holders. Whereas when there are fewer shareholders that implies larger shareholders both mathematically and theoretically.

Regardless, anyone using the shareholder count as a barometer of anything is pretty much naïve about the metrics to pay attention to when investing.
