Yes, but stocks rise when shorts cover. There's always shorting and always covering going on. Only in the IHUB world of junk stocks and fantasy enemies are shorts seen as such an evil.

In 2009 Warren Buffett was asked on TV about the role of shorting in damaging the market (that was at the market's low point). Buffett said that he believed shorting wasn't a significant factor.

Buy quality stocks, hold them rather than constantly flipping them, stop "playing" with your savings. You're doing it all the wrong way. And blaming your failure on everything but your own inexperience.

BTW, I'm a lawyer with a lot of money and decades of investing experience.

Exactly what do shorts do to stocks? The S&P 500 is about 5% below record high level. The Dow too. My own portfolio of blue chips has risen many times since I bought my first shares at age 19.

Yep CHK has struggled lately due to energy pricing and debt, but look at the incredible 40 year charts for the likes of Exxon and Chevon. Do you still think shorts have been a problem? Oils like CHK have been good investments too. Savvy investors have become fabulously wealthy.

Learn how shorting works. There are plenty of RESPECTED texts such as Ben Graham's "The Intelligent Investor." which is often used in university Investing 101 courses.

Shorts cover by buying the stock back which can raise the price.
