I collect stock misinformation. Great example I just found that relates to shorting is this reddit post:
Q. "Have you ever shorted a stock that went bankrupt?"
A. "Not me, but a professor recently told me that one of the deans shorted RadioShack at a 50ish peak and now he's retiring for good."
Two huge problems with that story: 1) it hasn't been $50 for many years, perhaps 15. 2) If one shorted from $50 (or any price) to zero you'd only double your money and that might take 15 years.
