The lead in period to Amendment 3 action included extensive visibility to the Magnetar Trade and several investigations into manipulation of CDOs that had serious affect on the financial markets that supported real estate. Did these actions put the GSEs at risk of a death spiral? I can't say for certain. Nor can I say they were unaffected, either.

There lots of dealings in the spotlight in 2012 inside the Beltway.

Her statements were accurate then and now. The government acted on it.
