"Geely scraps U.S. budget car plan
Chinese automaker Geely has scrapped its plan to adapt its current line of budget automobiles for the U.S. market. The company will instead develop an all-new car specifically for the United States and Europe, reports Automotive News. Previously, the Geely CK was expected to arrive in the United States in late 2008 for $10,000. Now, everything is "in limbo," according to John Harmer, former COO. Li Shufu, chairman of Geely, is currently seeking funding to build a $400 million plant in America. No further details on the company's future plans were given. In December, we reported that Malcolm Bricklin had changed his plans for importing Chinese cars to the U.S. He decided to sell upscale cars in the $20,000 to $30,000 range, rather than aiming for the $10,000 or less market."
