The CEO of United Airlines doesn't have to be a pilot, but he should know how to run an airline.

The CEO of Darden doesn't have to be a cook but he should know how to run a restaurant business.

The CEO of Sunworks, which is an solar installation business, doesn't need to know how to put panels on roofs. But he should know how to run a solar installation business. Abe knows how, Jim does not.

Jim has no credibility as a solar installation business CEO as he spent years explaining why he didn't think the installation business model made any sense (unless they had his super great solar cell).

If Jim left the company, the company could continue as a small but growing solar installer.

If Abe and his guys left, the company would collapse overnight. They have practically unlimited leverage to pull to get higher salaries and bonuses, which is their right to do.
