The report lets you see the short positions and who (what investor type) is holding and how it changed week to week. Charting some of it helps see the bigger trends. There are two major splits to the report. One has 'Futures Only' and the other is 'Combined' with Futures + Options.

It's compiled weekly and usually updated on Friday 3:30p EST. The data is always through the previous Tues.
