On 17 March 1997, signed Decree No. 0021 approving the mining agreement between the Republic of Zaire and BANRO Resources Corporation.
On that day, while the entire east of the country is already under the control of the AFDL of Laurent Désiré Kabila, the company Banro Resources Corporation sign in Kinshasa with the Zairian authorities a repurchase agreement of the concession of the Société Minière et Industrielle du Kivu (SOMINKI) q ui was a Belgian-Congolese joint venture established in 1976. But when Laurent -Désiré Kabila took power in Kinshasa in May 1998, it decays the company of his rights saying they were acquired in the context of armed conflict.

It was then that the company BANRO a complaint before an international court of arbitration (ICSID) under the pending 1: 03009 00cv and opens a long trial between it and the Congolese state for more than 4 years. With the signing of the 2002 peace agreements, President Joseph Kabila decided that either negotiated a settlement agreement with the company that claimed a billion dollars in damages to the DRC. The agreement was signed in 2003, thus ending the dispute.

Today BANRO has 4 operating license for gold concessions Kamituga, Lugushwa, Namoya and Twangiza (in the South Kivu and Maniema). The company's activities started in 2003 and the gold in industrial production in 2011 at Twangiza where the company built a plant and operates an open pit mine. The duration of this deposit is estimated at a quarter of a century.
