You've missed and misunderstood my points.

I said urine tests, not blood tests. If you are already going to the doctor to refill a prescription, then take a few minutes while waiting to pee in a cup.

Trust me...with two small children to care for, along with a disabled wife, I know what burden is all about. But this is not about me or you. You are an exception because you manage the drug well. Others are not or cannot do the same, hence the epidemic on our hands. So what is needed is a little sacrifice on our part to end this problem.

These drugs are highly addictive and there are many addictive personalities out there. My brother didn't plan to overdose on pain pills. But it happened because of his lifestyle choices, lack of education about the drug, addictive nature and poor to no drug monitoring. After rehab, he has been monitored regularly and is no longer abusing. Why can't everyone do that?

I understand there may be exceptions. I'm not naive. But overall, the majority of people who truly need pain medication can be monitored properly.

This conversation began when abuse by ingestion was brought up. Pharma cannot develop a pill that will stop working if you ingest too much. But we (physicians, patients and family/friends) can do our part. Unfortunately, we are not.
