The one thing that narcissistic bullies, and trump is narcissistic to biblical proportions, cannot handle or tolerate is being laughed at. They conceal their inadequacies with bluster, and when exposed, they crumble. He is activated by being criticized, it just eggs him on to fight back harder. Hell, he goes on the attack as a bully to forestall having negative attention on himself. It doesn't even register with him when an interviewer calls him out.
If an opponent can get the crowd on his or her side and then get the audience to laugh along with something they say at trumps expense, such as a joke about his hair or something, he will either go limp mentally or explode. The trick is to not insult him directly, as he has layers and layers of defense mechanisms such as his snappy comebacks, but rather, a joke about him that isn't a direct attack and having the audience laugh at him, he would lose it completely. A debate would be the best chance for that, as normally he is just surrounded with his minions and empty-headed admirers and strong-arm protectors. It is why no dissent is allowed at his rallies. No chance of his bunch laughing AT him. Any response to a good joke at his expense would just make him look small, and would cause an internal feedback loop that would probably give him a brain hemorrhage. For instance, if rubio (since he is toast anyway) said something to the audience as sort of an aside, that if trumps ability to pick a cabinet can be measured by his inability to even locate a competent barber, america should look out lest he get near an open flame with that thing on his head... rubio almost had it with the crude hands line, but it doesn't work by remote control, because of no audience laughing directly at trump. Plus the retort was too easy for trump, as he has no filter for taste or decorum.
Trumps overcompensation of bluster to cover his weaknesses is just too easy. Because as most all of us learn early in life, bullies are almost always cowards also.
