I just want to point out, that as far as I know, DC Comic wasn't in danger of going bankrupt. Marvel Comics did file for bankruptcy in 1996, and Toy Biz brought them out in 1997. Marvel hasn't been in danger of bankruptcy since the first Spider-Man movie came out.

It is merely someones opinion that Marvel and DC have a "remit" to get sales by all possible means, not fact. Marvel and DC are unlikely to undercut their digital and trade paperback business by offering ad supported streaming rights. Marvel also has their Digital Unlimited subscription service, which can be accessed by a Comixology powered app (both streaming and limited downloads). DC Comics also has a Comixology based app for their digital copies.

It might be possible to get their golden-age stories, but, it would probably take a good negotiator for that.

I'm not sure how much revenue is to be gotten from ad-click sales. I never buy stuff by clicking on an ad. I assume most people don't either. If I see an ad promoting something I like, I'll search for the item independently of the ad.

The high quality, even over a cellular connection is funny. My AT&T LTE connection is faster than most public WiFi connections I encounter. And, I assume most people will use slower WiFi, without knowing how much the app needs to download.

The quality of a streaming experience doesn't just rely on the app and end user internet connection. It also depends on the device, the content hosting site and their internet connection.

When I was a Marvel Digital Unlimited subscriber, I mostly downloaded instead of streamed. Streaming was too slow. I was never sure if it was my internet connection, my device didn't have the processing power, or Marvel's hosting site couldn't handle the traffic they were getting. I also mostly used a WiFi connection, I had to track how much bandwidth the app needed before using my cell connection (unlimted on my cellphone, severely limited on my iPad).

I downloaded the Farrgo Comic app (free ad supported comics) again, this weekend (iPad). I only got it to work on one book, before the app either wouldn't work, or it took too long for something to happen. It could be the app is buggy, my device is too old, or problems with their hosting servers. It didn't work, I deleted the app.

The POWfolio app looks good, but we won't know how good, until it's released. Its chat features might interfere with the streaming experience.
