on that story from Andrew Pryce, the man charged with the clean up effort.

I was the HSE QC Supervisor on a 2D seismic acquisition operation in the Block 11 A, Turkana County, Kenya. My duties included helping the crew set up the camp following international safety standards and environmental requirements of the Kenyan Environmental department and to closely monitor all vehicle operations in and around the project area. I would carry out weekly inspections and audits of the base camp facilities.

After the seismic operation was completed the crew were instructed to undertake a restoration operation that complied with the standards of the Kenyan Environmental Agency (NEMA). NEMA standards are of a higher standard than normally seen in the seismic industry, which was a cause of concern for the seismic contractor. All works were completed under my supervision and guidance and then inspected and signed off by NEMA.

During the later stages of the operation was also charged with supervising civil works which consisted of water borehole drilling operations, solar water pumping systems installation and road works, around the project area.
