Typically with Etrade and their online quick transfer option they will release the funds immediately up to the balance that is currently in a persons account. Any amount beyond that is three trading days for availability. That is if a person has their account set up as margin (even though you never trade on margin).
Example, if a person has a balance of $250 in their account and they transfer online $650 on Monday $250 is usually available immediately and the remaining $400 would be available on Thursday AM.
On a regular account with no margin classification, then I believe it is always 3 days.
Many here have changed their account status to a margin account just to take advantage of that faster availability. Just don't ever trade on margin though!
