#117716 RE: Nanotoday #117715

The original idea behind nanoviricides is that the micelle would contain some anti-viral agent. The viruses would bind to the ligands and then get nuked by the anti-viral. What was discovered serendipity was that the anti-viral wasn't necessary -- the virus would destroy itself after attaching to the ligand. (This isn't so surprising after the fact -- presumably the virus excecutes its "insert my genes into the cell" program after it attaches to the ligands. So it would attempt to disgorge its innards uselessly into the micelle.)

Anyhow apparently NNVC is still leaving open the possibility of putting an anti-viral inside the micelle just in case.
